Every summer the ATIS holds a picnic at the Boathouse on the Lower Lake of the AMR for families and friends. Tickets for the event are sold on the front porch of the Ausable Clubhouse and buses start ferrying people down to the lake at 1 pm. There are many activities to be enjoyed by all, including a sand castle contest, wacky swim races, and canoe races for all ages. After everyone has worked up an appetite, the men cook the hot dogs and hamburgers, the women serve, and all enjoy eating on the docks and looking out over the beautiful lake. Dinner is followed by a skit and an awards ceremony, and as the sun drops lower in the horizon, the buses start the return trips back to the clubhouse, while the hardy souls either walk or run back.
