The season starts with High Peaks Camp, which was inaugurated in 1965 and has been extremely popular ever since. Every year on the 19th of June, twenty boys and girls, along with their counselors and the cooks launch canoes on the Lower Lake and paddle up to the Upper Lake for two weeks of wilderness education and fun. In addition to day hikes, camping instruction, and swimming, the campers go on two 3-4 day trips: a backpacking trip over several of the "46ers", and a canoe trip on any of the many lakes and rivers in the region. One of the highlights is the final Banquet at which skits are performed, awards given out and much laughter is heard.
